TWO FINE DAYS & A THUNDERSTORM

BBC PHOTOS

It was the 1st July 2015, after two very fine, hot summer days, there was a thunderstorm!  The air was hot and it was muggy. The clouds rolled in, the rumbles got closer and there were forks of lightning appearing every few minutes.

I’ve never been a lover of storms so when I was encouraged to get my precious camera to hand, it was a very reluctant moment. Not only fear factor because of the storm but the prospect of my brand new camera, the key to my career as a Manchester & Cheshire Photographer, in ruin!

No time for tripods so with a husband to lean on and some persistence which lasted about 20 minutes before the rain hit, I was elated to have captured these stunning lightening images at home in Urmston, Trafford.

Having admired other people’s photos for so long and with nothing to lose, I submitted them to the BBC the following morning, one of which was published that afternoon.

Truly thankful to my husband for his encouragement and support to simply….’go for it’.
